Your Horse’s Horse Trailer Wish List

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your horse could speak to you?

I think it would be great! Oh, the controversies and misunderstandings that could be avoided. And you could make all the right decisions concerning your horse’s care because you could ask for his advice.

So what do you think his preference would be for horse trailers? What do you suppose his requirements would include?

I bet if I asked my horse to describe his ‘dream trailer’, his response would sound something like this.

1.    Plenty of room. I’m claustrophobic so don’t think you’re going to cram me into a small space and expect me to stand there quietly for hours at a time. No can do! I need room so I can spread my legs to balance myself. And for that same reason, I also need plenty of headroom.

Another thing that makes the inside of the trailer look big is the color. A light interior is always more inviting than a dark one. If it’s dark, I can’t see what’s in there, and if I can’t see what’s in there, I’m not getting on!

2.    Plenty of light. I love windows! The more, the better. I need to see what’s going on around me while I’m stuck inside. But as much as I love windows, I hate it when stuff flies inside the trailer, so please make sure they’re screened. It would be scary if someone accidentally threw a cigarette butt into the trailer and it landed on my hay!

3.    Safe design. You have no idea how unsafe some horse trailers are! So please, no sharp edges or things sticking out that I can cut myself on. Also, make sure partitions, dividers, etc. are easy to release or remove in case I get upset and do something silly. You know how I can be sometimes. And remember, I don’t like steep trailer ramps, ever try to walk up one when it’s wet?

So there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth. Does this sound like your horse? These basic recommendations can give your horse many miles of happy, secure travel and peace of mind for you. Remember them when you shop for a horse trailer.
