Established in 1985, Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center provides equine assisted activities to individuals with physical, educational, emotional, cognitive disabilities and other challenges. Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center (RTRC) is a PATH Intl. Primer Accredited Center located in Haymarket, Virginia.
The staff and volunteers at Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center are passionate about enhancing the quality of life of people with disabilities through participation in equine-assisted activities. RTRC focuses on the needs of every individual, and they tailor each lesson to the goals of each student. Their team of PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, Intl.) certified instructors work diligently to to maintain certification. Qualified instuctors at RTRC create unique lessons that will help every student accomplish their unique goals - from mobility improvement to increasing the ability to understand the world around them.
Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center works closely with Prince William County FAPT case workers and Youth For Tomorrow residential facility. By working with these organizations, RTRC is able to offer an innovative program for children and youth struggling with emotional and behavioral issues that impact their everyday lives. Instructors at RTRC use horses to help children who struggle with battles such as low self esteem, social anxiety, and anger issues.
RTRC not only focuses on children/youth, but they also have a program for adults that addresses the needs of the adult participant with physical and other challenges. Their adult-geared program will help the individual to set and accomplish realistic goals with their horse and the team at Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center. With each ride, individuals are sure to gain a feeling of accomplishment and well-being with exercise, fresh air, and horse bonding.
The team at Rainbow offers a program for military and veterans. They offer therapeutic riding and ground work lessons to veterans physical and cognitive injuries and disabilities and/or emotional trauma. RTRC offers these lessons at no cost to veterans.
Their Walter Reed Active Duty Horsemanship Program was founded in 2012. This program is for individuals who are in recovery at Walter Reed Hospital and are referred to RTRC by the recreational therapy program at the hospital. Horses are able to aid those in recovery by providing peace both physically as well as mentally.
